Bridget Ramsey

I began my career in fashion design…as a young girl, I fashioned clothes for my Barbie dolls and recruited my grandmother to sew them up. We had quite the manufacturing facility going on! That passion never waned.

As a more mature young woman, I parlayed my passion for color and design to the study interior design. Little did I know I would turn this desire to designing my homes and their interiors and do that for others as well.  It’s exciting to love what you do in your career…assisting clients in their choices for a comfortable and beautiful home.

When I lived in Hilton Head I worked with new newly relocated folks and second home owners who were ready for a change from the look of their family home. Then I lived in Asheville, NC working at the Biltmore Estate.  The rich history and iconic home there was far from comfortable, but what an opportunity to witness how “the other half live.” Previously living and working in a resort community only enhances my knowledge of the challenges we face in the Grand Strand area. Don’t we all want our homes to be comfortable? Should we ask the ghosts of the Vanderbilts?

Experience isn’t something I lack when it comes to the furniture retail business. For 12 years I have built my career around not only how furniture is designed and constructed but its actual use in room design and function. These two components allow me to diligently work with my clients to discover their needs when it comes to their home furnishings. A flair for color and size and scale isn’t enough…I find it important to listen to my clients. Lifestyle is all about form and function, I think. So listening to my client’s needs helps me help them achieve their goal for a beautiful home.

But communication doesn’t stop there…it continues after the sale. Our philosophy is to nurture our client so that she feels just as special in the future as she does now.

Having grown up around the furniture and fabric industry (High Point, NC), my passion for design has been a lifelong process. My particular love is for fabrics. I appreciate the beauty and design of fabrics and look at them as pieces of art.

I find great pleasure in being able to help the customers create a room or an entire house. It’s so much fun seeing it all come together. Our customers trust us, our visions and instincts…that trust helps the vision come to fruition. Some clients find it difficult to envision a completed project…that’s where our expertise and experience is critical.

My pleasure is in making the difficult seem easy and the task seems like fun!

You’ve heard the old saying, “Bloom where you’re planted.” I love what I do and where I do it. Although I’ve worked in the “people business” for over 27 years, somewhere in the back of my mind and in the beat of my heart, I never forgot how much I wanted to design beautiful, comfortable spaces for my family and friends. Growing up in the regal mountains of North Carolina always supplied the perfect background to foster this passion for design and color.

I believe success with people is threefold; listen, gain trust and in the end, always maintain integrity. Every day I make these components part of my commitment to my clients. It is an honor to assist my clients in finding just the right pieces of furniture or accessories to turn their house into a home. At GCF, I have the privilege of making design dreams come true every day.

As a little girl, I shared my room with my sister; but I can remember dividing the room down the middle so my half would be decorated to my preference…no influence from my sister. I guess that was the first indication I had a flair for design. As I matured and began to look at education options, design was the route for me. After graduating from design school, I served as an intern to a leading architect and later worked for a local designer to further hone my skills and talent.

My passion and experience now brings me to GCF as a member of the design team here. The joy I receive from seeing my design ideas put into place is most rewarding for me. I also rejoice right along with my clients at the completion of a job well done. The project is really never over! Come see me.

As a child, I was more fascinated with Barbie furniture than with the doll, but it was much later in life I discovered furniture and design was my passion. My parents were building a home and totally at a loss at making selections with the builder. At just about the same time my home economics class at North Myrtle Beach High School was studying interior design. I was hooked. I found I could visualize perfectly what our rooms would look like and was absolutely fascinated by paint decks and fabric samples. A degree in Art with a concentration in Interior Design from the University of South Carolina soon followed. Eager to pursue a career in creating beautiful residential, resort and commercial interiors, I returned to the beach to begin my dream.

Thirty-six years later I still love the textures, the colors and the feeling I have when I find just the right items for my clients. That love translates to my clients. I listen to their concerns and their ideas and together we work toward a cohesive and comfortable home. Clients become friends and now my pleasure is to work with second generations of the same family. As a matter of fact, my relationship with GCF has been through three generations as well.

I feel fortunate to create something new every day. From banks, to doctor’s offices, physical therapy facilities and attorney’s offices as well as residential design, I accept the challenge with zeal. A lifelong resident of Horry County along with my husband and son, I am proud to continue the tradition I began so long ago.

For 25 years I have shared my passion of creating beautiful living spaces for my clients at Garden City Furniture. I find few things more exciting than filling an empty house with beautiful furniture.  Satisfied clients are gratifying.

It brings me great pride when I hear a customer walk through our doors and ask, “Is Mary here?” I know that my diligence and caring over the years has provided us with guests who return time after time when a need arises. That’s what it’s all about!

It brightens our world. It can establish mood and atmosphere. Color can make very bold statements or create relaxing havens. Color is an essential and integral part of my design projects.

After completing numerous art and design courses, I opened a bath boutique and design shop in my hometown of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The reward has always been in assisting clients in obtaining the perfect look for their homes. After all, the way people chose to live is the essence of design.

My husband’s retirement brought us to South Carolina…and the fantastic beaches. We are blessed here with gorgeous sunrises and beautiful sunsets. Color, once again is the word. All these things brought me to a design position at Garden City Furniture. Here I have become a member of the Interior Design Society and for fun, the Red Hat Society. Have you noticed our colorful outfits of red and purple? We are dedicated to the art of having fun and being happy…in a colorful way!

Terri Newton

Born and raised in the Southwest Virginia region, in a major furniture production region, makes me an expert in “made in America”.  My passion for home furnishings and how they enhance our lives exhilarates me every day: and show me a “made in America” label and I’m really all about it!

Just a while ago my family and I moved to Murrells Inlet. My two sons keep me busy in my off time…but at the same time they help me focus on the importance of keeping things light and fun. Searching for the right piece of furniture or a comfortable bed to sleep in doesn’t have to be tedious. Let’s put some fun in the challenge. Come by and let me help you today.
